Summer tennis camp #6 is now complete. We will have a two week break and start back up at Mills Field week of August 10th!

All my current SJTA tennis players should have communicated in this past week to confirm your commitment to stay in the classes you once attended before summer. I confirmed most everyone and now filling in new students to come into our Academy from summer.

Thank you so much to all our students, pros, assistant pros and Creekside High school for making our summer tennis camp so successful. Not bad operating thru a COVID pandemic, safety standards were kept and I know not once did someone report an illness.

We will keep our COVID policies moving forward with masks, temperature checks and COVID questions upon check in. We will keep our groups limited at Mills for social distancing.

Summer Tennis Camp #6 is coming to a close and is SOLD OUT!

What a great 5 weeks it has been working with the youth in our community on the tennis courts of Mills Field and Creekside High! We have now marked our 100th registration this week and we have had so many new players hit our courts ages 5 - 19 years of age.

Thank you so much for all of you who are our Academy tennis players who are so dedicated to get out there and develop and improve your game in this HOT summer heat! Thank you for all the new clients who have come in and allowed us to teach the LOVE of tennis to your child. We welcome you to stay with us and join us for the rest of this year and into the next. Yes! We practice tennis ALL year long. Enjoy some of the photos of our tennis camp these past 5 weeks.

Re- opening of Saint Johns Tennis Academy & Summer Tennis Camps in FULL SWING!

I am happy to announce the re- opening of our tennis program starting June 15th, 2020! We are going to kick off this great news after a long pause of quarantine since March 20th, 2020 due to COVID. Now that we’ve done some hard work in staying safe with our families and making lots of changes at home its now time to get out and hit some tennis balls!

Our academy has planned a 7 week summer tennis camp located both at Mills Field tennis courts and Creekside High tennis courts for the weeks of June 15 - July 30th. We are taking reservations online on our website with limited spacing due to smaller classes and social distancing on the tennis court. We will take contactless payments online by Venmo, credit card or you can send a check in the mail. Our pros have planned a fun camp where your kids can come and learn tennis thru games. We have classes that you can socialize with your friends in person and we have classes that can challenge you to play hard and get back in shape!

We will also offer weekly match play on Wednesdays for orange ball, green ball and have UTR - Universal Tennis Rating match play for our intermediate to advanced players on full court yellow ball. You can register for our UTR match at myutr.com and search for Saint Johns Tennis Academy.

Register now on our website and feel free to contact me, Heather Diegan, director of tennis, if you have ANY questions! 904-994-3376

Ladies Beginner class - summer 12 weeks of training complete

I LOVE teaching this class! I have 6 ladies from our community who have now completed my 12 week series of “Love to Learn” “Love to Play” These ladies are ready to start playing doubles and soon will be playing league tennis. We have tons of laughs and they are so eager to learn and play. It’s really a Mom’s Night Out on Monday’s with me. I understand how important that is now an “Empty Nester” mom of 2.

The Magnificent Seven !

The Magnificent Seven !

Week 7 of summer tennis camp completed!

It was a hot week but these kids are learning more about hydration and nutrition in which they can stay out in the heat and play tennis cooler with more energy!

We worked on serves and return of serves. Serve consistency is the first priority and securing a good “serve ritual” helps solidify that success. Serve placement, spin and power come after to make our serves into a fabulous weapon on court.

Working on return of serve is equally imperative with good footwork, recognition of a fast ball coming in and body position to get a good return in with recovery.

We had a Dog Fight on Thursday - below we have two new students, one of which literally started at the beginning of camp and won the bottom half of our competitive play! Olivia won our top half competition and earned her second Dog Fight shirt.

Week 5 & 6 of summer tennis camp completed.

We worked hard on volleys and overheads in week 5 learning to work with proper grips, touch and feel for the short court is so important. Learning more about offense and defensive shots. Brought in the doubles play for learning more about court positioning and opening up the court to put the ball away.

Week 6 working on lobs and overheads from the front court and the back court. Developing a “serve ritual” to improve our serves and use it as a weapon Finished out the week competitive with a college format of play.

So proud of our kids pushing through practicing in the summer! The heat was quite high this week and humidity thick. They are learning more about nutrition and how to keep the body cool and comfortable in these hot conditions.
